Honda L15BE 1.5L Turbo Engine Guide: CR-V & Accord
The L15BE is Honda's 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder. It is used in the 2017β2022 Honda CR-V (most non-hybrid trims; some 2017β2019 base trims had a 2.4L instead) and the 2018β2022 Honda Accord 1.5T. Your VIN tells us which engine your vehicle has.
Common issues
- Oil dilution: in cold weather and on short trips, fuel can get into the engine oil. Owners may notice the oil level rising or a fuel smell on the dipstick. Honda released software updates and warranty extensions for some affected vehicles, so ask a Honda dealer to check your VIN.
- Carbon buildup: like most direct-injection engines, deposits can build up on the intake valves over time.
Many of these engines run for years with regular oil changes. Replacement makes sense when there is internal damage, such as a knock, low compression, or a turbo failure that sent debris into the engine.
Repair or replace?
- Fuel smell or rising oil level: start with the dealer and oil changes
- Misfire or rough idle: diagnose first (coils, injectors)
- Internal knocking or low compression: consider a replacement engine
- Turbo failure with debris in the engine: replacement is often the cleaner fix
